Situated on the border between Slovakia and Hungary, the Ipel River is rich in natural beauty as well as obstacles. This challenge requires you to be athletic with above-average stamina, ability and problem-solving skills.
You can enter individually or with a team, with a single or multi-use kayak, or a canoe. You may bring your own boat or rent one from us (limited availability).

Food and accommodation is available in comfortable campsites along the river. All participants who finish the course receive a medal and a certificate of completion. The overall winner receives a cup.

The maximum number of participants is 25, as the course runs through a national park and Ramsar territory.

ENTRANCE FEE IS 22,000 HUF

2019. Ipel Grand Prix finishers get 10% discount from the entrance fee.

LIST OF APPLICANTS

The entrance fee includes the following:
- Personnel: a safety kayaker at the rear, the driver of the DEPO-Z minivan equipped with first aid kit and safety equipment and a time-keeper who acts as jury.
- A medal and a certificate of completion for everyone who finishes the course.
- A cup for the overall winner.
- Itinery: a laminated waterproof info-sheet with all details, important objects and its distances
- Accommodation on comfortable campsites along the river for Friday and Saturday nights (WC, washing option in cold water, benches and tables, campfire - tents can be rented for extra fee)
- The transportation of personal luggage during the programme to all locations along the route from start point.
- Four meals: Cooked dinners on Friday and Saturday, breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday
- Daily car transfer to the supermarkets near the camps.

For extra fee:
- we rent kayaks, canoes for you with all necessary equipment and transport those to the locations
- we pre-set tents for you with comfortable matrasses (you will need to bring your own sleeping bag)
- we transport your own boats from Zebegény to Balassagyarmat before the tour, and from Szob to Zebegény after the tour.

The man behind the idea and the organiser of this event is Endre Máté, 18 times Ironman.

1.  Programme

Day 0. Friday, 3 July 2020

17:00 Arrival to the Ipel bridge in Balassagyarmat (Hungary) individually. Setting camp, registration.
(Direct public bus transfer from Budapest Újpest Városkapu to Balassagyarmat campsite (1,5 hours)
19:00 Hot dinner
19:30 Technical meeting: discussion of information, advices, questions, rules concerning Day 1 and the challenge in general. Drawing.

Day 1. Saturday, 4 july 2020

6:00 Wake-up
7:00 Breakfast
7:00 Last check-in. End of registration.
8:00 START of the first boat. A boat will start in every 5 minutes after the first one.
From 15:00 Arrivals to the end location of Day 1. campsite
18:30 Hot dinner
19:30 Technical meeting: Announcement of first day's results, preparation for second day.

Day 2. Sunday, 5 July 2020

6:00 Wake-up, breakfast
7:00 Start of the first boat. Other boats follow in every 5 minutes with handycap according to results of Day 1.
8:00 Start of the last boat. ( Start after 8:00 is not possible as we can not guarantee to finish the day before it gets dark.)
From 17:00 Arrivals at the FINISH. FINISH is the estuary line of Ipel to the Danube. From there a happy 500 meter paddling to Szob (Hungary) on the Danube.
Up to 19:30 Relax. Small bufet on the beach and a shower in Szob campingsite is available
19:30 PRIZING CEREMONY at Szob Danube bank.
Direct train transfer from Szob station to Budapest Nyugati (cc. 1 hour)

2. Kayaks, Canoes

Rental fee includes transpo, the necessary amount of paddles, lifejackets, waterproof bags or barrels for the entire programme.

Every participant will decide what boat will use on the course. Considering the nature of river Ipel - the rapids and obstacles - we suggest using polyethilen boats, one or two person kayaks.

The traditional fiberglass boats can be easily damaged on this course. One can decide and complete the challenge using a fiberglass boat as well, however managment of those boats over rapids and obstacles will need much more care.

Own boats:

We are ready to transport own boats and equipment from Zebegeny to Balassagyarmat before the tour and from Szob to Zebegeny after the tour for

If you want to bring your own boat you need to deliver it to DEPO-Z base in Zebegeny latest at 12:00 on Friday 3 July 2020

3. Accomodation and transportation of luggages

Accomodation:
Two nights on the shore in a comfortable campsite. We will set simple nature friendly WC, washing room with cold water and kitchen/dining facilities. Using the camp is included in the entrance fee.
Sleeping in own tent: the participant will bring, erect, strike his own tent, mat and sleeping bag.
Sleeping in a pre-erected, rented tent (limited availability) We provide pre-set, spacious 2-4 prs tents with comfortable matrasses. You need to bring your own sleeping bag.
Fee for a pre-erected tent: 2,000 Ft/tent/night plus 1,000 Ft/prs/night
(so it is 3,000 Ft/ prs /night for 1 prs sleeping in a 2 prs tent and 4,000 Ft/2 prs/night for 2 prs sleeping in a 3 or 4 prs tent)

Transportation of luggages:
We will transport a big bag per head with your belongings, not needed during the paddling, plus a mat, a sleeping bag and an own tent included in the entrance fee.

4. Catering

We will provide filling, hot dinner for evenings 0., and 1. plus breakfasts for day 1. and 2. and unlimited drinking water , soda water, cofee and tea.
Food during the day is managed individually. Please bring your special isotonic drinks and energy bars with yourself, as those in the local supermarkets might not be available.
In the supermarkets in Slovak and Hungarian towns in the vicinity of the camps, you can buy food on your own EUR or HUF expense.
After finishing dinner is available in Szob in non-expensive eateries.
Please inform about your food allergies when apply.

5. Application and payment

Entrance fee is 22,000 HUF

Finishers of 2019 IGP will get 10% ofdiscount from the entrance fee

APPLICATION FORM

We will send a confirmation e-mail and the bank account info where the full amount of application fee plus the rental fee of the boat and tent - if any - are to be transferred. Application is complete when these fees are transferred.

We maximised the number of participants in 25. We close application after the first 25 participants paid the entrance fee.

6. Rules

Time-recording: We will record the starting and the finishing time of each boat unit every day and the interval between the two will be the daily time result. Adding up these time result will give the final time result, ie for how many hours, minutes and seconds the 100 km course between Balassagyarmat and the Danube was completed.
Time limit:
22 hours in two days
Prizes:
Each participants who completed the challenge in time limit will receive a certificate and a medal. Participants completing the challenge over the time limit will get a certificate. The overal winner boat unit, so the unit that finishes the course within the shortest period regardless the number of the crew will get a cup.
Overtaking:
If a boat catches up another one, the slower one has to give priority to the other unless the slower one is going over an obstacle and unable to give priority.
Helping ech other:
participants can help each other overcoming the obstacles. Accepting assistance from others out of the programme is not allowed.
Overcoming on dams & waterstations:
It is strictly forbidden to paddle over the manmade concrete stations. There are seven such dams on the course. Regardless the state of the station participants strictly obliged to take the boats out of the water on the stairs before the dam, carry over in hands on the land and put back to the water only after the dam via stairs.
Overcoming the natural obstacles:
At some point the course will be blocked by fallen trunks and flotsam. It is forbidden to relocate those to hold up others.
Littering and harm nature is forbidden.
Organisers will not use plastic utensils and bottles. Bring your own water bottle that we refill. The amount of litter must be zero or minimum. Litter collected during the day must be transported to the end point and selected where organiser will collect and recycle.

We love fishermen, we greet them, and we avoid their fishing ropes
